london.gov.uk is the official website for the Mayor of London, the London Assembly and the Greater London Authority. Created by the Greater London Authority Act 1999, the Mayor and the London Assembly constitute a unique form of strategic citywide government for London.
Mayor’s Energy Strategy for London
’Green light to clean power’, the Mayor’s energy strategy, sets out his proposals for meeting the essential energy needs of all those living and working in London. Development of a Renewable Energy Assessment and Targets for London
This study on the potential for renewable energy in London has been published jointly by the Mayor of London, the Government Office for London and the ALG. It suggests that London will only manage to generate only a small percentage of its electricity from renewable sources by the end of this decade; it is hoped that its publication will provoke discussion and generate new ideas and innovation.
The London Plan
The Mayor is responsible for producing a new planning strategy for London.
London Energy Partnership
The London Energy Partnership was set up by the Mayor to respond to the challenges of climate change, security of energy supply and fuel poverty. The partnership brings together a range of sectors and organisations to deliver energy action more effectively.
London Hydrogen Partnership
The Partnership was launched in April 2002, to work towards a hydrogen economy for London and the UK
London Sustainable Development
Mayor’s vision is for London to become an exemplary sustainable world city, based on the three balanced and interlocking elements of: strong and diverse economic growth; social inclusivity to allow all Londoners to share in London’s future success; and fundamental improvements in environmental management and use of resources.
London Climate Change Agency
The London Climate Change Agency - supported by the LDA, the Agency will work in partnership with private sector firms to tackle London’s carbon dioxide emissions.
London Renewables
Operating from spring 2003 to spring 2005, the London Renewables steering group worked with the London Energy Partnership to enable London to meet its renewable energy targets, as set in the Mayor’s Energy Strategy. The London Renewables programme promoted the uptake of renewable energy technology in the capital. In particular, its programme focused on increasing the amount of renewable energy technologies used in new buildings and developments.
London Environment Co-ordinators’ Forum
The London Environment Coordinators Forum (LECF) brings together people leading on environmental issues and the implementation of sustainable development in the public sector in London. It operates without budget or staff. Knowledge, experience and ideas are shared through quarterly meetings, the work of sub-groups, and by e-mail.
London Boroughs’ Energy Group
The London Boroughs’ Energy Group is set up to facilitate effective working on energy related issues between public sector bodies in London, focusing primarily on the 33 London Boroughs. It’s core membership is London Borough Energy Managers.
London Schools Environment Awards
These annual awards for primary schools aim to develop children’s sense of responsibility for their environment. The areas which the schools focus on are litter, waste and recycling, energy, transport, biodiversity, and water.
London Sustainability Exchange
Association of London Government
The ALG represents all 32 London boroughs, the Corporation of London, the Metropolitan Police Authority and the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, which all pay an annual subscription to cover the Association’s running costs.
The Flagship Home Project (Knightsbridge)
The aim of the project is to show that this type of house can make a positive contribution to a low carbon economy while maintaining the traditional character of the building and adhering to planning constraints

National Right to Fuel Campaign
Campaigning for an end to fuel poverty by securing a warm, dry, well lit home for all, regardless of income or location. A general resource for all who are interested in the elimination of fuel poverty.
Award Winning Islington Safe and Warm Scheme
Islington Council’s Safe and Warm grant scheme has won a Green Apple award from The Green Organisation – an international non-profit environmental group whose annual awards recognise environmental best practice.
